If you are going to be in the Pasadena area, be sure to get yourself some Rose Bowl tickets soon.

As most of you know, the Rose Bowl is just about always played on New Year's Day (January 1). The exception is that when New Years Day is on a Sunday, the Rose Bowl is played on the Monday. Historically, the Rose Bowl has been the most heavily attended Bowl Game out of all the college bowl games. That's right, more than the Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl and the Sugar Bowl, and of course the Cotton Bowl. In fact, the term "bowl game" to refer to a match-up comes from the original Rose Bowl Stadium. If it wasn't for the Rose Bowl, we might be calling it the "Supergame" or the "Pro-Matchup."

We all love to watch the Tournament of Roses, AKA "America's New Year Celebration," and it doesn't quite feel like the New Year until we watch the Rose Parade. The Rose Bowl is the oldest Bowl Game in the US, dating all the way back to the first Rose Bowl held 1n 1902. The Rose Bowl didn't take place every year until 1916. Rose Bowl Pasadena has been the norm since 1902, however the Rose Bowl took place in Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham, North Carolina in 1942. Previously, the Rose Bowl hosted the Pacific Coast Conference champ.

In the current system, the Rose Bowl sees the Big Ten Champ take on the Pac-10 representative, that is unless they are in the BCS Championship Game. Each conference has its own criteria for naming its representative. In 2002 as well as 2006, the Rose Bowl was also the BCS Championship Game. The "home team" is decided by which team has the highest BCS ranking at the end of the season. Also, the Big Ten team is usually on the West side and the Pac-10 is on the East side.

The Rose Bowl does not feature big-name performers during the half time show. Instead, the school marching bands perform. As part of the television contract, some of each band's half time performance appears on TV.

This year will be a Rose Bowl for the ages, and some big names are sure to come up big. Don't wait to get your Rose Bowl tickets.
